FUTA COVID-19 Prevention Protocols, Resumption Guidelines

  The management of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has released the COVID-19 prevention protocols and resumption guidelines for all students of the institution. All students are to note the following guidelines for resumption: University Hostels will be opened to accommodate students as from Monday 18th January 2021. No student will be allowed into the hostels earlier than that date.  Hand washing materials will be provided at strategic points within the campus, and students should wash their hands at regular intervals.  Students are to ensure strict compliance with Covid-19 protocols by putting on their facemasks within and outside the University premises, and in this regard, each student is to have at least five (5) sets of washable facemasks.  Each student is to come with hand sanitiser, which should be in his/her possession at all times and be used at intervals. 2021 CHEVENING Essay Competition for Nigerian Undergraduate

The Chevening Alumni Association of Nigeria (CAAN) has received funding from the Chevening Alumni Programme Fund (CAPF), to organize an essay competition for young people in Nigeria, as part of its community service endeavours. 

The Chevening Alumni Programme Fund (CAPF) of the British High Commission(BHC) supports Chevening Alumni Association activities across the globe. 

The Alumni Association are professionals who are beneficiaries of the Chevening Scholarship Programme for Post-Graduate Studies in various disciplines in the United Kingdom (UK). CAAN is therefore pleased to publish details of the competition as follows:

TOPIC: Alternative Narratives to illegal Migration Amongst Young People in Nigeria

The essay seeks to stimulate thoughts on illegal migration, especially amongst young people, towards preventing the occurrence, and for providing options to breaches of immigration regulations. 

The options should not only help stop the risks that it exposes perpetrators to, but should offer alternative ideas on earning a living, aside from the belief that the option can only be elsewhere. It seeks to challenge the youths on creating and harnessing opportunities in the local environment, and to envision migration from the legal path, if desired.

The focus of the essay is on emphasizing the risks of illegal migration by deepening knowledge on other possibilities.

Objective: The overarching objective of the competition is to;

  • Generate ideas that will be helpful for CAAN future engagement with the private sector, the Nigerian government and multilateral agencies on curbing illegal migration.
  • Foster deeper inter-generational learning throughinteractions between CAAN members and the younger generations.
  • Encourage young Nigerians to engage in the discussion of a core trans-national governance issue, ahead of future leadership roles.

Eligibility:

Undergraduate students in Nigerian public and private universities and in other tertiary institutions of learning

Essay Guidelines

  • Not more than 2000 words, including references
  • Must be original, as essay will be subjected to credit reference checks.
  • Typed and double-spaced.
  • Appropriate use of examples and illustrations
  • Creative and engaging, with realistic solutions to the migration saga.
  • Comprehensive prose.

Mountain Top University Notice To Student On Resumption And Online Lectures For Academic Activities   The National Universities Commission (NUC) in line with the directives of Presidential Task Force(PTF) on Covid-19 has mandated all Universities to suspend all academic activities involving large crowds while the Universities remain closed pending further directives from the Federal Government on reopening of schools. ASUU Members Portend "Fresh Strike"

A cross section of varsity lecturers have vowed to push for resumption of the suspended strike at their respective zonal levels over government’s ‘failure’ to honour agreements both parties reached at a meeting on December 22, last year.   Daily Trust   reports that ASUU suspended its 9-month-old strike December 23rd, 2020 following certain agreements reached by both parties, which included payment of outstanding lecturers’ salaries on or before December 31, releasing of N40bn Earned Allowance before January 15, among others. But in separate telephone interviews with our correspondent, the lecturers described the government’s refusal to honour the agreements as “insincerity”, saying such behaviour would be met with stiff resistance.
