FUTA COVID-19 Prevention Protocols, Resumption Guidelines

  The management of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has released the COVID-19 prevention protocols and resumption guidelines for all students of the institution. All students are to note the following guidelines for resumption: University Hostels will be opened to accommodate students as from Monday 18th January 2021. No student will be allowed into the hostels earlier than that date.  Hand washing materials will be provided at strategic points within the campus, and students should wash their hands at regular intervals.  Students are to ensure strict compliance with Covid-19 protocols by putting on their facemasks within and outside the University premises, and in this regard, each student is to have at least five (5) sets of washable facemasks.  Each student is to come with hand sanitiser, which should be in his/her possession at all times and be used at intervals. SSANU,NASU Begins Strike Today


The Joint Committee , Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities and Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities will start a three - day protest today .

A statement by the General Secretary of NASU, Mr Peters Adeyemi and president of SSANU , Mr Mohammed Ibrahim on Friday , said , the JAC NASU/ SSANU observed that the federal government failed to address any of the agreement it signed with the union on October 20 , 2020.

In an interview with The PUNCH , on Monday , SSANU , Ibrahim , maintained that the strike would commence today and ended on Thursday , adding that all their members across the country would participate .

“All things being equal , we shall commence the strike today ( Tuesday) . ”

“The JAC observed with disappointment that the Federal Government has completely failed to address any of the issue contained in the Memorandum of Understanding. For the avoidance of doubt , the issues for which the MoU was entered are as follows ; inconsistencies in the Integrated Payroll Personnel Information Systems payment, non-payment of Earned Allowances , non-payment of arrears of minimum wage , delay in renegotiation of Federal Government , NASU and SSANU negotiation of 2009, as part of the agitations , the non- payment of retirement benefits of out- gone members, teaching staff usurping headships of non -teaching units in clear violation of conditions of service and establishment procedures .”
