FUTA COVID-19 Prevention Protocols, Resumption Guidelines

  The management of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has released the COVID-19 prevention protocols and resumption guidelines for all students of the institution. All students are to note the following guidelines for resumption: University Hostels will be opened to accommodate students as from Monday 18th January 2021. No student will be allowed into the hostels earlier than that date.  Hand washing materials will be provided at strategic points within the campus, and students should wash their hands at regular intervals.  Students are to ensure strict compliance with Covid-19 protocols by putting on their facemasks within and outside the University premises, and in this regard, each student is to have at least five (5) sets of washable facemasks.  Each student is to come with hand sanitiser, which should be in his/her possession at all times and be used at intervals. UNILAG Senate To Announce Resumption Date On Wednesday

 The Registrar of University of Lagos, Mr Oladejo Azeez,  said the decision on resumption of academic activities would be taken by the school’s Senate on Wednesday.



Azeez in an interview with The PUNCH, said the Senate would meet virtually on Wednesday to discuss and decide on the modalities of students’ resumption and academic activities.

He said, “Irrespective of what the Federal Government has said, the resumption of students or of academic activities is the prerogative of Senate. Senate of the university will decide and the meeting of the Senate is coming up on Wednesday; a virtual meeting. The law places this in the hands of the Senate and until Senate meets, there is no way anybody can say anything on resumption.”


The management of the University of Ibadan said everything would be done to ensure that there was not spike in cases of COVID-19 among students and staff.

The Director of Public Communication of the university, Mr Olatunji Oladejo, said this in an interview with one of our correspondents in Ibadan on Sunday.

But ASUU Chairman at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Dr Abubakar Sabo, said he doubted if universities in Nigeria could meet the guidelines for preventing COVID-19.


Abubakar, who spoke to one of our correspondents in Sokoto, stated that he was not aware of measures being put in place by the management of the UDUD towards the resumption date.

“The Federal Government and university authorities must ensure that, there is no spike on our campuses. I have doubt, if our universities can meet up with the standard and best practices to check the pandemic.”

Mountain Top University Notice To Student On Resumption And Online Lectures For Academic Activities   The National Universities Commission (NUC) in line with the directives of Presidential Task Force(PTF) on Covid-19 has mandated all Universities to suspend all academic activities involving large crowds while the Universities remain closed pending further directives from the Federal Government on reopening of schools. ASUU Members Portend "Fresh Strike"

A cross section of varsity lecturers have vowed to push for resumption of the suspended strike at their respective zonal levels over government’s ‘failure’ to honour agreements both parties reached at a meeting on December 22, last year.   Daily Trust   reports that ASUU suspended its 9-month-old strike December 23rd, 2020 following certain agreements reached by both parties, which included payment of outstanding lecturers’ salaries on or before December 31, releasing of N40bn Earned Allowance before January 15, among others. But in separate telephone interviews with our correspondent, the lecturers described the government’s refusal to honour the agreements as “insincerity”, saying such behaviour would be met with stiff resistance.
