FUTA COVID-19 Prevention Protocols, Resumption Guidelines

  The management of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has released the COVID-19 prevention protocols and resumption guidelines for all students of the institution. All students are to note the following guidelines for resumption: University Hostels will be opened to accommodate students as from Monday 18th January 2021. No student will be allowed into the hostels earlier than that date.  Hand washing materials will be provided at strategic points within the campus, and students should wash their hands at regular intervals.  Students are to ensure strict compliance with Covid-19 protocols by putting on their facemasks within and outside the University premises, and in this regard, each student is to have at least five (5) sets of washable facemasks.  Each student is to come with hand sanitiser, which should be in his/her possession at all times and be used at intervals. Enugu State Govt.: Schools To Re-open Jan 18

 The Enugu State Ministry of Education has announced January 18, 2020, as resumption date for all schools in the state.

The decision, according to a statement by the State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Uche Eze, was reached at a meeting between the Ministry and major stakeholders in the sector, on Monday.

Prof. Eze disclosed that all schools in the state were advised to ensure full compliance with the NCDC guidelines for the containment of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), stressing that “the Ministry of Education will engage in constant monitoring of compliance when schools resume”.

The Education Commissioner added that “it was also decided that to help engage the students/pupils, all tertiary institutions, Basic and Post Basic schools are advised to activate their e-learning programmes”.

In a related development, the Enugu State government, in furtherance of its commitment to contain the second wave of COVID-19, suspended the annual prayer session, held at the Government House, Enugu, to commence work for the New Year, directing all civil servants to resume duties in their various offices, with strict compliance with NCDC guidelines.

Mountain Top University Notice To Student On Resumption And Online Lectures For Academic Activities   The National Universities Commission (NUC) in line with the directives of Presidential Task Force(PTF) on Covid-19 has mandated all Universities to suspend all academic activities involving large crowds while the Universities remain closed pending further directives from the Federal Government on reopening of schools. ASUU Members Portend "Fresh Strike"

A cross section of varsity lecturers have vowed to push for resumption of the suspended strike at their respective zonal levels over government’s ‘failure’ to honour agreements both parties reached at a meeting on December 22, last year.   Daily Trust   reports that ASUU suspended its 9-month-old strike December 23rd, 2020 following certain agreements reached by both parties, which included payment of outstanding lecturers’ salaries on or before December 31, releasing of N40bn Earned Allowance before January 15, among others. But in separate telephone interviews with our correspondent, the lecturers described the government’s refusal to honour the agreements as “insincerity”, saying such behaviour would be met with stiff resistance.
